Larry and I see a trainer. He recommends low carb/high protein shakes. We get them at Costco and eat them for breakfast everyday. Also, the trainer recommends mozzarella string cheese for a snack. I usually have about 12-15 almonds too. The 100 calorie packs are perfect for your purse. Good luck cuz! --Lisa
My meals/snacks during the day are pretty basic/clean eating types of foods, pairing a protein wit a complex carb. We eat a LOT of chicken for dinner so I always try and find different/quick ways to liven it up. Here are some of my favorite recipes. All are simple and only a few ingredients. Normally, I pair them with brown rice/roasted potatoes/sweet potato and broccoli/brussels sprouts/green beans/salad
Garlic Rosemary Chicken with a lemon sauce Dijon Cream Cheese Stuffed Chicken Breast Diet Cola Chicken Herbed Chicken in Red Wine
I agree with the almonds, string cheese but they don't fill me. I get the cocoa hundred packs or a giant bag of almonds, less packaging and cheaper. I have to pair them with a glass of smoothie (Bren using Naked or Bolthouse Farms Green Goodness until my juicer comes in) or my Perfectly Protien (Bolthouse Farms, coffee and milk Protien drink.) I would happily drink my calories!
As for meals, we eat lentil tacos once a week, sometimes more. The kids love them and so do we,
So easy, it does take 45-50 minutes but it's a dumpit in and forget it kind of 50 minutes and then warm the tortillas (labandita whole wheat soft taco) and it's done.
Another we do everybweek is the classic taco soup, I should stray from the packaged tacomseasoning and hidden valley ranch mix but I haven't, I love it the way it is.
1 can black beans 1 can red beans 1 can corn 1 can tomato sauce Either boca or Morningstar crumbles Taco seasoning packet Hidden Valley Ranch packet
Dump in pot, cook for 30 minutes. I serve with cheese and fritos. Horrible, I know! Should probably figure calories on this one. But for a meatless meal that is a kids favorite, it's a staple here.
Shawnas sticky chicken recipe then gets turned into stock or soup.
Quinoa rove and beans, holy cow SO good. A meal in itself or a side dish. I eat so much it's a meal.
i've been drinking kale smoothies lately, it sounds gross but they are really good if you can get over the fact that they're green. i fill up my blender with kale (~4 leaves), and put in half a banana, some orange juice, and whatever fruit I have (usually canned pineapple & kiwi) putting blueberries or blackberries makes it brown (tastes good, but very off-putting for me) so I don't add those unless its all I have. From what I've read about kale, its really good for you. Since they're not really portable, I usually have a fiber one or fiber plus bar & an apple in my purse for on-the-go snacks :-)

Those are on the menu a lot. I have like 6 things I cook: these, pita pizzas, and fish and rice.

ReplyDeleteWow thanks everyone! I am loving the ideas. :)
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorites right now is breakfast:
ReplyDeletegreek yogurt (I like the honey flavor)
granola (homemade or store bought)
berries (frozen or fresh)
It is my fake dessert for breakfast! :)
